Product Variation:
Beiersdorf Enhances Industrial Safety with High-Performance ASTM A194 Grade 8M (B8M) Heavy Hex Nuts
Key Features
- Superior Corrosion Resistance: The key feature is the addition of molybdenum(2.00-3.00%) to the standard stainless steel composition, which provides enhanced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in harsh, chloride-rich, and acidic environments where standard 304 stainless steel would fail.
- High and Cryogenic Temperature Performance: B8M nuts maintain their structural integrity and mechanical properties across a wide temperature range, from cryogenic lows to elevated temperatures up to around 800°C(approx. 1472°F).
- High Strength and Durability: They are high-strength fasteners, especially the Class 2 variants, which are strain-hardened to achieve higher tensile and yield strengths, ensuring reliable performance in high-stress applications.
- Material Composition: They are an austenitic stainless steel alloy composed of chromium (16-18%), nickel (10-14%), and molybdenum, offering a rugged construction and long service life.
- Non-Magnetic Properties: In their annealed (Class 1) condition, B8M nuts are generally non-magnetic, though they may become slightly magnetic after cold working.
- Compatibility: They are designed to be used with corresponding ASTM A193 Grade B8M bolts and studs in demanding applications, ensuring a compatible and secure fastening system.
Primary Applications
- Chemical and Petrochemical Plants: The resistance to various chemicals and acids makes them ideal for use in processing equipment and piping systems.
- Marine and Offshore Environments: Their superior resistance to saltwater and chloride makes them a standard choice for marine engineering and offshore oil rigs.
- Power Generation: Used in systems involving high temperatures and pressures, such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and boilers.
- Food and Pharmaceutical Industries: The excellent corrosion resistance and ease of cleaning make them suitable for food processing equipment and pharmaceutical applications.
